Welcome to a new term and to the new staff joining us in September. We have a lot of talented new faces joining us and they will help us to build on the A Level and GCSE results of the summer. As you can see from these brief thumbnail sketches we have appointed colleagues with a great breadth of talent and experience and it is fantastic to see students from our SCITT coming through the ranks showing that Minsthorpe is growing the next generation of teaching talent.

Catherine Allsop Geography Following her PGCE year Catherine became a teacher of Geography at The Farnley Academy, Chapel Lane, Leeds. She was graded as Outstanding during an Ofsted visit there in December 2013. Has taught KS3, 4 and 5, together with BTEC Travel & Tourism, Level 3 to Year 12 students, as well as AS Geography. She was the SEN Representative for the Geography Department and Course Tutor to Year 10.
Laura Espin Science/ACTL KS3 Joined Barnsley Academy in July 2012 as KS3 Co-ordinator for Science. Laura was appointed Assistant Head of Science until leaving to join Minsthorpe CC. She has been consistently graded Outstanding in all areas of learning and teaching (no dates given). Was voluntary ITT mentor for PGCE, NQT and TeachFirst participants.
Helena Fallon ICT & Computing/ ACTL Learning & Teaching Helena undertook the EM Direct Graduate Teacher programme at Willowgarth High School, Grimethorpe, Barnsley from January 2008 to May 2009. In September 2009 until August 2014 she was Teacher of ICT/Computing at Winterhill School, Rotherham. In September 2014 she was Head of Year 4/Lead of ICT at Milefield Primary School, Grimethorpe, Barnsley. Has taught KS2, 3 and 4. Her school was graded Good with Outstanding Features and Helena has been a consistently good/outstanding teacher.
Anna Fish Science Anna has an MSc in Public Health, a BSc Hons in Professional Studies and is also a qualified nurse. She was a school nurse for 11 years in the Wakefield and Doncaster areas. Prior to joining our teacher training programme in 2014 she worked as a specialist practitioner for Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Children’s Services. This involved educating children on personal, health and social education. She decided to change career and joined our SCITT programme due to her passion and drive to inspire children to succeed.
Dean Gervis English Dean was a self-employed joiner but decided to change career. He attended Sheffield Hallam University and achieved a BA Hons in English and Education Studies. He joined our SCITT programme in September 2014. He keeps fit by attending the martial arts discipline of Muay Thai and since joining Minsthorpe CC has set up a Muay Thai club for the pupils and staff.
Guillaume Jamen Modern Foreign Languages Guillaume holds a European Licence and European Degree in Economy, Human Resources, English, Spanish, Law from Vatel University, Nimes, France. He joined our SCITT programme in September 2014.
Kieran Murphy Humanities Kieran attended the University of York and achieved a BA Hons degree in History in 2011 and an MA in Medieval History in September 2012, followed by his PGCE in History at the University of Oxford. He is a member of the Historical Association.
Sarah Pearce Mathematics Sarah attended Liverpool Polytechnic and achieved a BSc Hons in Applied Physics and a Certificate in Accountancy from the Open University. She was a Reporting Analyst for the Royal Bank of Scotland in Leeds and undertook the Certificate in Accountancy at the Open University whilst there. She then decided to pursue a career in education. For six years she has worked as a HLTA/Cover Supervisor teaching mathematics to KS3 and KS4 students at Crofton Academy. She has been involved in the running of several after school clubs, eg STEM, Maths homework club, annual STEMFests. She is a sports leader for Wheels for All Project which allows able bodied and disabled people to cycle together.
Karen Ralphs Humanities Karen attended the University of Liverpool and achieved BSc Hons in Geography. Undertook her PGCE at the University of Leeds. She was employed as Geography teacher at Sherburn High School, later promoted to Head of Geography. Joined Temple Moor High School, Selby in April 2011 as Faculty Leader, then became Programme Leader Geography in January 2015.
Gemma Twiby English Gemma achieved BA English Literature at Leeds Metropolitan University. Joint WRPITT in September 2014 at Carleton Community College. Prior to her training she was a volunteer at Hemsworth Arts and Community College and worked at Ossett Academy as an Associate Teacher in Literacy.
Adam Wearing Science Adam attended Sheffield Hallam University and achieved a BSc Hons in Biomedical Sciences. Attending Edge Hill University for MA Education which includes PGCE. Prior to attending Edge Hill was employed as an Activity Leader at Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, responsible for the delivery and safety of students aged 8 on outdoor pursuits activities such as educational visits, team building, PRU and SEN.
