FAQs

When will the summer School take place?

Monday 2nd August – Friday 6th August, running from 8:30 to 2:30. On the activity days out at Kingswood, students will arrive at school as usual at 8:30 and arrive back at college at the later time of 4:45pm. The schedule for these days will be given to you nearer the time.

We are currently offering 60 places on a first-come-first-served basis, so please register your interest as soon as possible and we’ll confirm after the deadline whether you have successfully secured a place.

Is it free?

Yes. The summer school is fully funded by the Department of Education as part of the COVID recovery plan.

Do students need to bring food?

No. Breakfast will be provided for the students each morning from 8:30-9:00. Lunch will also be provided by our canteen each day. At days out at Kingswood, a packed lunch will be provided. Fruit and snacks will be provided throughout the day.

Do students need to wear uniform?

No. We would like your child to wear comfortable, appropriate clothing for the learning environment. We recommend:

  • Plain trousers, tracksuit bottoms, skirt or shorts;
  • Plain t-shirt or a long-sleeved top;
  • Comfortable trainers suitable for both practical sessions and comfort in the classroom;
  • A warm outdoor jacket;
  • A hat / sun cream.

On days whilst at Kingswood Activity Centre, students will be outdoors and would need the following additional clothing:

  • A waterproof jacket;
  • Suitable trainers for outdoor pursuits (which can get dirty and wet);
  • A dry change of clothing (a bin liner or plastic bag to store wet clothing).

Does my child have to attend?

No. However, it is an excellent opportunity we feel should not be missed, so we would love them to join us. We would like, however, a firm commitment as it is important we know exactly how many students are planning on joining us so we can staff the event safely and effectively.

We will not receive funding for students who do not attend, so we ask that you consider this carefully before committing to a place so we may cover the extensive costs of planning activities and bringing our dedicated teachers in to school over the summer.

How will it be affected by COVID?

We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure we run the summer school safely and in-line with current government guidelines.

However, we will continue to ask that you inform us of symptoms and positive test results, so that we can act appropriately. In the event of a positive COVID case during the week’s activities, students will be expected to isolate and the respective bubble (Literacy and Arts, or STEM) will be required to isolate also.

We will give you any more necessary information nearer the time, but for more information please email summerschool@minsthorpe.cc and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
