Pupils from Moorthorpe Primary are excited to be performing in an ambitious theatre project set to thrill audiences at Minsthorpe Community College.
It’s 1967 and something rather strange is happening in a small, Northern town. There’s a right, old, rumble in Rutland Street, when ‘The Browns’ discover a spaceship in their backyard. Excited at the prospect of a substantial reward, the adults are soon off down to the Police Station to report their find, but can the rest of the family keep a watchful eye on things until they return…?
A hilarious tale of aliens, Elvis, Battenberg cake and… Mam’s big knickers!
‘Mam, There’s a Spaceship in our Backyard’, by local writer / teacher, Sarah Cowan, is one of her latest plays to be published by Lazybee Scripts and is central to this inspirational project.
The six-month Drama project has aimed to improve attainment, motivation and self-esteem of gifted and talented pupils in performing arts. The children are learning about a variety of aspects of performance, including stage management, lighting, costume and direction. This project is intended to support and extend current provision in education. The children are enjoying being fully involved in all aspects of the production and are looking forward to performing in an actual theatre setting. It would be great to share our work and inspire other schools and we hope you will support our project.
Shows will take place on Monday 14th July 7pm and Tuesday 15th July at 6:30pm at Minsthorpe Community College. Tickets are priced at £3:50 for adults and £2:00 for children.
