This term, your teenager is going to get the opportunity to sign up to National Citizen Service (NCS), the government-funded summer programme for 15-17 year olds. It’s an amazing way to build new skills, meet new people from different backgrounds, and live new adventures.
NCS gives young people the chance to build their confidence and make a difference in their local community, and it’s the perfect addition to any CV, personal statement or UCAS form. It’s a head start on their next step in life, and so far over 200,000 young people have taken part!
NCS programmes are delivered by a network of youth and community organisations including charities. The Challenge, the country’s largest provider of NCS, is going to have places available in Leeds and Wakefield for the summer 2017 programme. There are limited places available due to the popularity of the programme therefore it is important that your child signs up as soon as possible as places are secured on a first-come first-serve basis.
Each place only has an admin fee of £50, due to government backing. However, until 10th March we are offering this programme for £30 (additional financial assistance can be requested). This fee covers all meals, kit, and accommodation for the whole programme. Once your child completes their NCS journey, they attend their graduation and receive a signed certificate from the Prime Minister. NCS graduates continue to get access to loads of opportunities with us, so the programme doesn’t just end there!
The NCS team will be coming in to deliver an assembly on Wednesday 1st March, where your child can express an interest in taking part. In the meantime, you can find out more about the programme by visiting www.ncsthechallenge.org, where you can check all the dates the programme runs and to secure their place immediately.
