Your new parent Governor at the College is Mrs Christine Britton and her candidate statement is below:
Having worked with children all my life I am passionate about education for all and the need for reviewing and positively enhancing education in educational settings. I have worked in schools in France and Africa and I believe to have a broad understanding of different education systems. I am currently Global Learning and International Work Leader in my school and I have a passion for widening horizons to learners evolving in today’s multicultural society.
I believe myself to be an objective, accountable, very honest and open person and I have had numerous occasions during my career to lead teams of people. Most of all I am always 100% committed to the jobs I undertake and strive for excellence in whatever I do.
I am motivated to apply for this post as I would like to be a part of a rapidly developing college. Having two children enjoying learning in at MCC, I understand the need as a parent to offer my views and experiences on how to further the learning journey of pupils, staff and the wider community.
Wanting the very best for the future generations is driving me to apply for this position.
The Articles of Association of Minsthorpe Academy Trust provides for parents and carers of registered students to be members of the Minsthorpe Community College Governing Body. A vacancy currently exists for a Parent Governor and self-nominations are invited along with a factual statement (not exceeding 200 words) about yourself and how you feel that you could contribute as a Parent Governor. Should an election be necessary this statement will be circulated to all parents, along with those of other candidates. The successful candidate will also become a member of the Minsthorpe Academy Trust.
All parents and carers of registered students are eligible to stand for election, with the exception of parents who meet any of the 15 criteria listed from the document below. All parents and carers will then be eligible to vote in the election, should one be necessary.
If you are eligible and would like to self-nominate, please complete the form (page 2 of the document below) and return it to the college for the attention of Mrs Jayne Germain (Clerk to the Governors) by Thursday 2nd July 2015, 3pm. Alongside the letter is a useful booklet entitled "The Essential Trustee". I strongly recommend that interested parties download and read this which is excellent preparation and background to the role of ‘governor’.
