Post-16 Open Evening
On Monday September 20th we welcomed Year 11 students and their families to our Post-16 Open Evening. Susie Lewis, our Director of P16, gave a passionate and inspirational talk on the benefits of remaining at Minsthorpe and joining our thriving, successful Sixth Form. Staff and students were on hand to talk to Year 11 students about the courses that we will be offering in September 2017 and the Post-16 Leadership Team made sure that the event ran like clockwork and. As ever, our students are the best ambassadors for Minsthorpe.
European Day of Languages- 26th September 2016
There are over 6000 languages spoken in the world. And behind each and every one of them lies a rich and diverse culture. That’s what the European Day of Languages aims to celebrate – by showing people across Europe how important languages are, and what fun can be had learning them.
On Monday 26th September schools all over the country will celebrating the European Day of Languages in different be ways. At Minsthorpe this year students will be taking part in activities to do with a range of languages in all different Curriculum Areas in college and in P&A time.
People with bilingual (and multilingual) brains have better memories, can multi-task (and concentrate) more, maintain cognitive functions and avoid dementia for longer that monolingual brains. Learning another language does strengthen the brain.
We hope that students have a great day and go home having learned lots of words in lots of different languages. At home you could try to say ‘hello’ in a different language using this list:
|Greek||Γεια σαζ (Yas as)|
|Hungarian||Jó napot(yon na-pot)|
Have a great day on Monday and enjoy having a go at another language – Ciao!
Minsthorpe teams off to a flyer
We are celebrating the first matches of the Year 7 Minsthorpe Rugby and Football journey; the footballers beat Ossett 8-1 and the rugby team beat Hemsworth 40–0. The star performer in the rugby was Taylor Baddeley described by his proud coach, Mr Max, as a ‘small lad but an absolute beast’! I think he means beast in a good way????
