Each year, students in Year 13 take part in the Extended Project Qualification. This is the closest that A-level students come to doing a dissertation and can take the form of an academic report or the production of an artefact. Marcus in Year 13 chose to investigate why horror games seem to struggle to achieve the popularity enjoyed by first person shooter, driving and sports games. As part of his investigation he produced a teaser trailer for a potential horror game that would borrow many of the successful marketing strategies from these other genres. He presented his findings to an invited audience, one of whom is a games designer from Leeds University. His trailer was presented alongside two other trailers and the comment from the observer was that his work was better than the professional ones. Praise indeed! Take a look for yourself.
