Minsthorpe is a successful 11-18 Academy in Wakefield and is the lead school of the Encompass Careers Alliance, a collaborative partnership of thirty schools who aim to provide high quality one-to- one Careers Education and Guidance across West Yorkshire. We have secured funding from the Careers & Enterprise Company to create a hub of schools who are committed to embedding the Gatsby Benchmarks in their schools and to ensure that every student in that school receives more than the recommended one-to-one interview with a qualified Careers Guidance Professional.

Thus we are looking to appoint a Careers Guidance Facilitator to organise, support and direct a team of Personal Guidance Professionals to provide high quality, independent CEG to enable students in a variety of schools across West Yorkshire to make informed, realistic decisions about their future learning and employment pathways. You will also understand the finance function and be responsible for administering the PGP project budget working within the College Finance Team to ensure that the PGP budget is kept separate from the overall budget but that its activities mesh with other careers- based activities taking place in the College e.g. the Careers Programme, the NCOP project and the disadvantaged programme etc.

As a Project Administrator you will organise team members and specialise in facilitating, reporting and analysing projects under the supervision of the Strategic Lead. You will also be expected to work with both the SLT and the Careers Leaders in thirty different schools and will need to command the respect of a disparate group of professionals and be knowledgeable as far as the current careers agenda is concerned.

The successful candidate may have previous experience when it comes to Careers Education and Guidance but could also be a graduate candidate who is passionate about changing and shaping the lives for our young people. You will also be able to project manage a programme across numerous sites and have a sound understanding of financial recording methods.

This is a good opportunity for someone who has had experience in education and wishes to develop the skills and qualifications required to become an effective project co-ordinator. You will work as part of the Finance Team at Minsthorpe Community College where you will organise and co-ordinate the PGP team when it becomes a peripatetic one serving a further twenty nine schools in Wakefield, Barnsely, Bradford and Kirklees. You will be organising the deployment of this team in a number of different schools and ensuring that the events/ activities that the team will be taking part in are planned and organised with the hosting schools.

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Careers Guidance Facilitator who will:

  • Co-ordinate frequently with team members for updates regarding the work in progress
  • Meet regularly with the Strategic Lead responsible for the PGP programme in order to monitor and update on the progress of the plan
  • Monitor the progress of the project and acknowledging team suggestions
  • Monitor progress against the project milestones
  • Monitor the project spend and produce monthly updates for the ECA Strategic Lead
  • Manage different stages of the project
  • Discuss updates with the SLT of the ECA partnership of schools
  • Suggest intervention strategies if you suspect that parts of the plan are subject to slippage
  • Ensure records of all PGP interventions are kept in all ECA schools and collate them centrally
  • Liaise regularly with the Careers & Enterprise Company, Local Enterprise Companies and local Careers Hubs to ensure that the work of the ECA complements their agendas

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a far reaching project that could transform the lives and careers prospects of thousands of students’ right across West Yorkshire. Whilst initially funded for one year in the first instance the intention is that the partnership of schools adopt the PGPs as a paid-for-service and it is our hope that these roles connected with the programme will go beyond the funding period. However, this will depend on our being able to demonstrate the impact and success of the PGP network in the first year of operation and deployment.

All ECA schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Rigorous checks will be undertaken of the successful applicant’s background credentials, including enhanced DBS checks.

The Strategic Lead for the project is happy to discuss the role with prospective candidates. For an application pack please email Cath Green, HR Director at Address any enquiry to Mr Ray Henshaw, Strategic Lead for the Encompass Careers Alliance at either or
