Minsthorpe is a Community College committed to lifelong learning for all its students and community. A crucial part of this commitment is to strive for total participation in Post 16 education and training for all those students who have reached Year 11.
We have a wide range of academic, vocational and occupational courses on offer and good success rates.
Familiar staff who have already guided and supported students through GCSE’s are the course leaders for Post 16 subjects.
We have excellent facilities, comparable to any other School or College including a Sports and Fitness Centre, a Library Learning Centre and recently updated Post 16 Study Centre; including a recently refurbished common room with a kitchenette facility and upgraded ICT facilities.
All young people have the opportunity to engage in non-qualification enrichment activities which broadens their experience at Key Stage 5.

Minsthorpe Community College has approximately 1500 students on roll. Around 220 of these are students in Post 16 education. The College offers Level 1, 2 and pre-apprenticeship courses but mainly Level 3 courses at BTEC Certificate, Diploma, and at A Level. Typically, around 75% of students progress to Higher Education now (steady increase over the last 5 years).
A large number of our students are eligible for the Bursary, and the local area is one of relative social and economic deprivation (low Higher Education up-take with lots of involvement in widening participation work locally), with many families having been part of the ex-mining community. A significant number of our students applying for Higher Education will be the first of their family to go to university, and re-generation is a high priority locally.
