Relationships and Sex Education Policy

Dear parents/carers,

Please find a draft version of our proposed Relationships and Sex Education Policy which will come into force from September 2020. At Minsthorpe Community College we already have a well-established approach to Relationships and Sex Education within our SMSC/L4L and pastoral curriculum. Also we deliver Relationships and Sex Education across our subjects e.g. exploring relationships in English Literature, reproduction in Science or online safety in Performing Arts.

The Government has set out guidance for what should be covered in secondary schools and the guidance stipulates that schools must undertake parental consultation for any changes to existing policy regarding this curriculum provision. We felt that it would be beneficial to take part in the district wide consultation led by Public Health to gather responses from a larger number of parents.

As you will see, the survey is quite brief and is intended to gather overarching attitudes and feedback from parents about how and when the curriculum is developed. We would be grateful if you would complete the survey. Once the survey closes, we will be provided with a summary of the responses received by parents at the college which will allow us to make any further amends to the draft policy.

The survey will close on Monday 24th February 2020.
