Year 11 Prom – 2021

Dear Parents / Carers

Throughout KS4 the main priority is to offer your child every possible opportunity to achieve the best results in their final summer examinations. Research shows that the students who have good attendance achieve the best grades.

Our previous Year 11 (2019) results showed that 86% of students with over 95% attendance achieved their English and maths GCSE grade 4 – 9, compared to only 37% students achieving the grades with less than 95% attendance. The statistics demonstrate that if a student is at College regularly then they will gain good grades.

95% attendance is the equivalent of 9.5 days missed learning in an academic year. This equals 60 individual lessons of lost learning. This is an incredible amount of time missed, particularly with the final exams rapidly approaching. Please support and encourage your child to succeed by ensuring they attend on time every day.

The Year 11 Prom is a chance to celebrate their time at Minsthorpe and to wish them well in their future endeavours. Students who will be eligible to attend the Year 11 prom in 2021 will have above 94% attendance from September 2019 to May half term 2021 and a good behaviour record. If a student does not meet this criteria they will not be allowed to attend their Prom. Please check your child’s attendance regularly to ensure they meet this criteria.

Thank you in advance for supporting the college and your child with attendance. We are looking forward to celebrating your child’s time at Minsthorpe at their Year 11 Prom, their English Literature exam results this summer and their final results in 2021.

Yours sincerely,

Miss L Bigland
